COMMON TRACK & FIELD INJURIES

There is a fine line between discomfort/soreness and injury. Soreness and discomfort are normal for runners as their body adapts to larger levels of training. If an issue persists, please communicate with the coaches about what you are experiencing. We can usually give you some good ideas for treatment and how to proceed. Our interest is in keeping you healthy and racing at your best! Often an injury is only the symptom, while the cause may be hidden in your body’s biomechanics. We will work with the athletic training staff to try and give athletes a quick screening of their biomechanics and brainstorm the cause of the symptoms.

For some, ORTHOTICS may be necessary to correct biomechanics. Generic orthotics are available at local running stores such as Naperville Running Company. CUSTOM ORTHOTICS can be designed by a podiatrist. I highly recommend seeing a sports podiatrist for the majority of running injuries. Personally, I recommend Dr. David O’Brian in Roselle, IL. You can see his website here: www.runningsportsdoc.com

As you will see, a foam roller and ice is a good place to start when running soreness starts to pop up…
